A SPECIAL THANK YOU

Due to Hurricane Milton, the Commander-in-Chief's Cup, sponsored by Callaway with additional sponsorship from Dick's Sporting Goods and Danaher Corp., was moved on short notice from Seminole Golf Club to Scottsdale National Golf Club in Arizona. The Service Academies Golf Foundation, as well as the players and coaches from The United States Military Academy, Naval Academy and Air Force, extend a heartfelt thank you to Bob and Renee Parsons for their incredible hospitality.

Army Wins 2024 Event

The student-athletes from these illustrious institutions demonstrated tremendous skill and sportsmanship over two days of exciting competition. At the conclusion of the first round, the match was tight with the three teams separated by 13 shots. During day two, the United States Military Academy emerged victorious, finishing with a team score of 850, 14 under par. A special commendation goes to USMA Cadet John Heckel Jr., the tournament medalist, who delivered two spectacular rounds of 64 and 67, finishing on 13 under par, 131.

At the Collegiate-Am, the Naval Academy emerged victorious with a team score of 735. Gary Hendrickson, Chad Evans, Matt Kuntz and Navy player Chip Deegan led the way with a low gross of 60, with a sparkling back 9 of 26, to beat Matt Freitag, Adam Huddleston, Sean Hegarty and Army player Dragon Theam in a match of cards. Low net honors went to Jim Bruyette, Steve Mote, Jim Smith and Navy player Ben Valdez, who fired a score of 56.

Building on the history of the Service Academy Golf Classic, which was contested from 1993 to 2012, and the rich history of the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy contested annually among Army, Navy, and Air Force football teams, the Commander-in-Chief's Cup was created to honor those who have served, are serving, and will serve to protect all of us and the freedoms we cherish. And while this is a golf competition, it also celebrates the importance of camaraderie and friendship, shared values, and striving for excellence.

A key component of the Commander-in-Chief's Cup is the "Collegiate-Am" where amateurs play with one Academy player in a shamble format. Proceeds from the Collegiate-Am enable the Service Academies Golf Foundation to hold the Commander-in-Chief's Cup and donate a portion of the proceeds back to the Academy golf teams. We are grateful to Seminole Golf Club, its members and exceptional staff led by Head Golf Professional Matt Cahill, who invited us to reschedule the Collegiate-Am on Veteran's Day and to all who generously donated to support the Academy teams.
